My upbringing in Hawai'i and my nomadic life in the US colors my world. I am passionate about using design as a problem solving tool, motivated by a love of progress, and empowered by the desire to gain and share knowledge.
My interest and practice with visual and layout design started at 8 years old, when I became a reporter and layout editor for my school newspaper. For the next 10 years, I was part of award winning school teams for various writing, multimedia, and design competitions.
'alawa is a Hawaiian word that means to glance. It also means a knowing glance, or to diagnose by insight. It was a word I saw frequently for 30 years and has been a theme of my professional life.
